every river has a source

This is ours

Up The River is what happens when Hudson Valley neighbors decide their town deserves better than a highway drive or a sketchy smoke shop. Ossining's first licensed dispensary — built on Main Street, staffed by people who live here, and named for the river that raised us.

≈ Why "Up The River"

The name is a promise

Our home sits on the east bank of the Hudson, thirty miles up the river from the city — where the water widens, the pace slows, and everybody waves at the train. The name marks the spot.

But it's also how we think. Rivers move forward. They connect towns that used to feel far apart. They carry good things downstream and welcome everything swimming up. After decades of prohibition did real damage to real communities, legal cannabis in New York is a chance to move forward together — responsibly, proudly, out in the open on Main Street.

"Cannabis should be accessible, responsibly sold, and represented in a way that lifts up the people and neighborhoods around it."

2021

New York says yes

The MRTA legalizes adult-use cannabis statewide — and writes community reinvestment into the law. Somewhere in Ossining, a plan starts forming.

2023

Paperwork season

Applications, floor plans, security specs, community board meetings. The unglamorous years — powered by diner coffee and a stubborn belief that Ossining deserved its own shop.

2024

34 Main Street

We sign the lease on a storefront in the waterfront district — steps from the Metro-North, in a downtown that's finding its second wind. The buildout begins: warm wood, deep blue, one very good neon sign.

License in hand

OCM-RETL-25-000288 — Ossining's first adult-use retail license. We frame it. We also read every compliance memo twice; some habits form early.

The Chamber of Commerce brings the big scissors, neighbors bring the line down the block. First sale, first regulars, first "wait, this is actually lovely" from a skeptical aunt. History, locally sourced.

Good neighbors, on purpose

A dispensary done right gives more than it takes. Ours means jobs for local hires, foot traffic for the block, tax revenue that flows back into New York communities — and a team that shows up for the village beyond our four walls.

Local first. We hire from the river towns and stock New York growers — many family-scale farms within a tank of gas.

Main Street partners. Chamber of Commerce members from day one — ask us where to get dinner after your pickup; we have opinions.

Education over hype. Free guides, patient counters, and honest answers — including "start smaller" and "you don't need that."

A rising tide. New York cannabis taxes fund schools, community reinvestment, and drug-treatment programs statewide. Every legal purchase is a vote for that.
